ROL currently has 27 altar servers whose ages range from 9 years to 19 years old. Most of the teenagers in the group have served since grade school and continue to be active members of the ministry.
Altar Server Requirements:
1. Must be baptized Catholics, and have received their First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
2. Be at least in the 4th grade.
3. Complete altar server training. Training is provided as required.
Services:
Serving is a true liturgical ministry. To be a server means to serve God and God's people at Mass. Servers assist the community to celebrate the sacred liturgy in the following ways: they lead all other ministers in procession into and out of the worship area; they hold the book of prayers (sacramentary); they escort the gifts to the altar; they hold the water for the chalice; they help wash the hands of the priest. Servers have significant roles in the special liturgical celebrations during Holy Week: Palm Sunday, Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil), and Easter Sunday. Servers may also be scheduled to serve on Holy Days of Obligation and other masses, as needed.
