Resurrection of the Lord Church

Homebound Outreach Ministry

We must always be on the lookout in our parish and community for those who are sick or aged, who need us to care for them as Our Lord Jesus Christ asked us to in Matthew25

.
Matthew 25: 35-40
'For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me,
ill and you cared for me,
in prison and you visited me.'
Then the righteous will answer him and say
'Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you,
or thirsty and give you drink?
When did we see you a stranger and welcome you,
or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison,
and visit you?' And the King will say to them in reply,
'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for
one of these least brothers of mine,
you did for me.'

Some of the things we can do for the homebound are:
1. Visit them. Some people are at home ill or alone with none, or very little human contact. We can help bring Christ and his light into their life by spending a little of our time with them. Talk to them, and more important, listen to them. Human contact and care can do wonders for people's health and spirit.
2. Take them shopping, for doctor visits and to church.
3. Help them around the house, wash cloths and dishes, do house and yard keeping, help them with their pets.
4. Take them the Eucharist. This is coordinated at Resurrection of the Lord by Father Paul and accomplished by him and our Eucharist Ministers.
5. Pray with them

Here is a further list of Seven Little Things Anyone Can Do from the Six Ways I Can Make My Parish Better pamphlet, which is in our Narthex for distribution.
1. Think about one message that spoke to you in the readings, the music, the homily, or your Communion meditation at Mass. Share these spiritual insights with a family member of friend.
2. Pray for the sick and suffering in your parish.
3. Talk about the good things that are happening in your parish during the coming week.
4. Offer to introduce family members or friends who are going through difficult times to a priest or parish staff member.
5. Ask new people in the neighborhood if they would be interested in checking out your parish.
6. Invite someone who lives alone to come to Mass with you.
7. Take a copy of your parish bulletin to someone who is sick or homebound.
